Webcasting comes to DSU athletics
Dakota State University Athletics enters a new realm this week as video
webcasting debuts on Friday, December 14th for both the Women’s and
Men’s Basketball Games. In the
past, DSU has web-cast the audio of conference games but will now integrate
video webcasting with home athletic events.
The link to the
live video of the games can be found at
http://www.departments.dsu.edu/athletics
beginning at 5:45pm (CST) for each regularly scheduled home Dakota Athletic
Conference game. Once on the DSU
Athletics page, scroll down to and click on the <Live on KJAM> link.
The radio broadcast of the game will accompany the video.
DSU will continue to web-cast the audio of each regularly schedule away
conference game at this same link. “We are
excited to be able to provide fans another way to watch our athletic events.
In particular, this is a great option for parents and families that live
further away and aren’t able to watch their son or daughter play, they can now
do so with the click of a button,” said Dr. Tom Gioglio, Athletic Director at
Dakota State University.
In the past, DSU
has webcast its graduation ceremony, but this is the first time athletic events
have been done.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer this service to our
campus community. We’ve had the
equipment only a short time, but we’re gaining more and more confidence each
time we use it,” said Brad Bell, Communication Network Specialist at DSU.
This year, all
home Dakota Athletic Conference basketball games will be webcast.
Other spring sporting events will be selected throughout the year to be
broadcast on the Internet. Plans
for next year include webcasting home games for all sporting events.
Gioglio stated
that the games will be archived on the Athletics webpage so that people can
watch them at any time. He also has
plans to use webcasting for special events such as athletic banquets and Trojan
Huddles. “This is a
great opportunity for DSU, especially in recruiting.
While on the road or during a campus visit, coaches can show students
films at the click of a button. It
also will appeal to those students who aren’t from the area.
With the use of the net, their families and hometown’s will still be
able to follow their career from high school right to college,” said Gioglio. |
