DSU Diversity Office and SHAPE promote UNITY week Dakota State University, Office of Diversity Services, and SHAPE (Drug and Alcohol Program) inaugurate the first annual DSU UNITY Week, April 25th –May 5th. “Unity Week is designed to provide several events and programs that highlight various aspects of music and art, raising an overall sense of awareness and camaraderie at DSU,” says Scott Zlotak, Director of Diversity Services at DSU. “The Unity Week slogan is, One Heart, One World, One People.” Kicking things off on Wednesday, April 25 will be a Hip-Hop and Dance music DJ spin-off contest. On Thursday and Friday more Hip-Hop music venues will be offered in The Trojan Center Sneakers Lounge. On Saturday, April 28, a Native American Wacipi (Pow-Wow) will start at 1pm in the DSU Fieldhouse. A Yom Hashoa Holocaust Memorial Candle Light Vigil will take place in the Trojan Center at 7:30pm on Tuesday, May 1. An Underground Coffee House-Acoustic Music and Poetry Night is set for Thursday, May 3 in Sneakers. The grand finale is an Earth Day Benefit Concert. Sioux Falls band Kory and the Fireflies will highlight the six-band concert on Saturday, May 5 in the Dakota Prairie Playhouse. The event starts at 3pm. “The idea behind the events is to engage the students, faculty, staff, and friends of DSU to grasp ownership and identify with the campus,” said Zlotak. “Moreover, there is something for everyone.
