Tana Thompson Memorial Scholarship established
Madison
-- The Dakota State University
Foundation announces the establishment of the Tana Thompson Memorial
Scholarship. The scholarship was established by Tana’s parents, Dale and
Glenda Thompson of Winfred. Tana died as a result of injuries sustained in a car
accident on April 13, 2001. She was
in her junior year at Dakota State University, majoring in elementary and
special education.
“Through
the generosity of the Thompson’s and many family friends and relatives, over
$5,000 has been dedicated to a memorial endowment. This endowment will exist forever in loving tribute to
Tana’s memory,” said Mark Lee, Vice President at DSU.
Each
year, a $1,500 scholarship will be awarded to a junior or senior student from
the College of Education. The
student must be majoring in Elementary Education or Elementary Education/Special
Learning and Behavioral Problems.
The
first recipient of the scholarship for the 2001-02 school year is Danelle
Keninger from Ackley, Iowa. Danelle
is a senior majoring in Elementary Education/Special Learning and Behavioral
Problems.
“Tana
was a popular, bright student at Dakota State.
I consider Dale and Glenda’s action to be a statement of great love and
courage and the endowment ensures that we will remember Tana and honor her
memory each year,” said Dr. Jerald Tunheim, President of DSU.
Anyone
