DSU student presents research to State Legislature
Dakota State University Master of Information Systems graduate student,
Shawn Schuur recently presented research to the state legislature on The Readiness Of South Dakota’s Regental Schools To Comply
With Section 508, The Workforce Investment Act Of 1998.
Section 508 requires, in part, that websites allow individuals with
disabilities to have the same level of access to information as individuals
without disabilities. This project reviews the current level of compliance to
those requirements among South Dakota’s Regental Schools. The poster session
offered a graphical analysis of each institution’s readiness. Suggestions on
how to prepare for the future were also presented. “Every person that I am able to present to helps the world and Internet become a more accessible place for people with disabilities,” said Schuur. “I felt very privileged to be able to spread the word at the student poster session.”
John Webster, assistant professor of Business for Information Systems and
Schuur’s advisor said the presentation was received well by legislators.
“Shawn spent time talking with Board of Regents administrators who showed
great interest in her research project,” said Webster. |
