Hemmer’s Establish Doblar Scholarship Endowment

Madison – The Dakota State University Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of the Berton and Mary (May) Doblar Memorial Endowed Scholarship.  The scholarship, created by Gene and Sharon (Doblar) Hemmer, is dedicated to the memory of Sharon’s parents, Berton and Mary (May) Doblar.

“A scholarship is a wonderful way to honor loved ones, and we are pleased that Gene and Sharon have selected DSU to be a part of this legacy,” said Dr. Jerald Tunheim, President of Dakota State University.

Berton and Mary were lifelong residents of Lake County and farmed on the southern edge of Lake Herman.  Berton and Mary were both interested in and advocates of education, and Berton was actively involved in Democratic politics at the local and state levels.  Mary worked in the home and together they raised 16 children.

The scholarship will be awarded each year to students that display a financial need so that they can further their college education.  The first recipient of the Doblar Scholarship will be chosen for the 2002-2003 academic year.
