Faculty Development Committee schedules FRESH

The Dakota State University Faculty Development Committee has scheduled a series of seminars called FRESH (Faculty Research and Education Seminar Hour).

Michelle Glaros, the faculty development committee chair, says FRESH will be an informal forum where DSU faculty members will share recent or current research projects. “This was initiated by the faculty development committee,” said Glaros. “It originated because faculty members are interested in knowing what their colleagues campus-wide are researching.”

Once a month, two faculty members will present for about 15-20 minutes and take questions from the audience members afterwards. The featured speakers will determine the format of each seminar. The series will run through the 2001-02 academic school year.

“We’ve tried to schedule two faculty members from different disciplines for each session,” said Glaros. “We’re hoping for a cross-fertilization between the different fields that will be reflected in the audience each session draws.”

The first session will be this Friday, October 12 at 4pm in the Mundt Foundation. Jim Janke and Dan Weinstein will be the presenters. Janke will discuss “Stock Market Contests in the Economics/Finance Classroom” and Weinstein will discuss “PIM Software in the Computer-Assisted Writing Classroom.”

All sessions will start at 4pm in the Mundt Foundation. Sessions will take place on the first Friday of each month. Other session dates will be November 2, December 7, February 1, March 1, and April 5.
