Dakota State Offers England Study Tour
Dakota State University will once again be offering the England Study
Tour for While overseas, students will learn the culture and how to survive on their own in a new environment. “We want to teach the students how to navigate on their own,” said Moose. “We prefer helping the student become independent instead of doing everything for them. One way we do that is to have the students take turns leading the group.” Moose said that the students are also taught how to keep themselves safe in a large city and how to dress so they don’t become victims of elaborate mugging schemes. “We want students to be aware of pickpockets,” said Moose. “There is a less chance of trouble if you look like you belong there.” They way you dress is a big part of fitting in admitted Moose. Bright colored cloths are a sure fire way of being tagged a tourist. “For the most part, black or grey colored clothes are what everybody wears,” she said. “There really are no bright colored clothes in England.” Some of the attractions that will be available on the tour include: Westminster Abbey, Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square, Big Ben, the Thames River, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Buckingham Palace, St. James Park, Tower of London, Regents Park, Hampton Court Palace, Kensington Gardens, Prince Albert Memorial, British Museum, Warwick Castle and Stratford-on-Avon. While in Edinburgh, students will visit such sites as the Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile and Holyrood Palace. While in Paris, students will see the Eiffel Tower, Champs Elysees, Arc de Triomphe, The Louvre, Notre Dame and the Obelisque. “It was amazing being in and seeing the palaces that Princess Diana had been in,” said Kristi Voss, who took the trip in 1999. “The castles and buildings were enormous structures. It’s incredible how they constructed them with such detail.” There will be opportunities to shop, explore, attend plays, and experience English cuisine as well. “All students who have ever gone on the tour say they want to go back,” said Moose. “Creating a sense of interest is one of the things I’ve appreciated about the trip.” “Before I went, I never really thought about going,” said Voss. “But when the opportunity arrived I decided to go. I would never change my decision and I can’t wait to go back.” “In one word, amazing,” Voss said about the tour. Approximate cost for the fourteen-day trip is $2,700.00 (includes tuition and fees for class). For further information or to register for the England Study Tour, contact Nancy Moose at 256-5269. |
