Emry Hall raises money for NY victims

Dakota State University dorm residents and floor advisors are helping in the cause of the recent attack on the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City.

The Emry Hall Council recently held a fundraiser to donate money for the victims and families involved with the tragedy. Floor representatives from the dorm solicited door to door to raise funds and also held a banana split night. For a dollar, students could buy a banana and build a banana split with toppings Emry Hall supplied.

“We as a dorm decided that we wanted to raise money for the victims of New York,” said Emry Hall Resident Advisor Angela Thill, a senior Elementary Education major from Sioux Falls, SD. “Hall Council went around to all Emry residents asking for donations.”

The event was a success, raising close to $700. The Emry Hall Council decided to match the amount raised and a check for $1,388 was sent to the American Red Cross.

“I was overwhelmed with the response,” said Thill. “Some students donated 20 and 25 dollars. Instead of buying a shirt or something at the mall, they chipped in for a good cause.”

Other involved with the success of the fundraiser were Heather Miller, a sophomore Elementary Education major from Sioux Falls, Laura Harrison, a junior Elementary Special Education major from Gillette, WY, Lynda Ehlers, a sophomore Computer Science major from Letcher and Kayla Ratcliff, a freshman Elementary Special Education major from Gillette, WY.
