DSU Students to travel to China, Japan and Hawaii On Tuesday, May 15, sixteen Dakota State University students along with their faculty advisor, John Webster, DSU assistant professor of business and information systems, will be traveling to Asia on a 14 day trip. The trip consists of six days in China, a one-day visit to Japan and a week in Hawaii. While abroad, students will be visiting Beijing, where they are scheduled to visit the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace and Tiananmen Square. From Beijing they will take the train to Shanghai where they will visit with students from Shanghai Television University and travel to a number of local sites. The group will then depart for Japan, where they will spend the day in Narita City visiting the local shrines and cultural offerings. From there, the group will travel to Hawaii for a seven-day trip. While in Hawaii, the group will learn more about the culture of the islands and visit many local attractions, including Pearl Harbor and Waikiki. The United States Geological Society has invited the group to visit the volcano facilities on the Big Island of Hawaii. “The purpose of this trip is to further our students cultural understanding of Asia,” said Webster. “We are involved in a number of relationships in China, one of which is potential student exchanges. Those who go on this trip will help us determine the feasibility of sending students and faculty to live and study in China.” To learn more about where the students will be visiting, visit http://www.homepages.dsu.edu/websterj/ChinaTour.htm |
