Professor has paper published in
Quarterly Journal of E-commerce
Dakota State University adjunct professor of Business for Information
Systems (BIS), Bruce White, has had a paper accepted and printed in the
Quarterly Journal of Electronic Commerce. The paper, “A study on Undergraduate
Academic Programs in Electronic Commerce,” is based on research on
undergraduate programs in e-commerce.
“I was pleased that my paper was accepted,” said White. “I’m
hoping that it may be kind of a ground-breaking publication for e-commerce
curriculum development.”
The paper looked at some common
traits as well as differences between the various undergraduate degree programs
in E-Commerce and suggested a common framework for developing programs.
“For example, some schools offer
an undergraduate degree in e-commerce as a marketing program; and others offer
the degree as a telecommunications / technical program,” said White. “The
paper suggested an inter-disciplinary approach.”
White said there were a lot of
graduate programs in electronic commerce popping up, a nice selection of
undergraduate courses, but very few undergraduate degree programs in electronic
commerce. “Actually, the new Bachelor of Science program in Electronic
Commerce at DSU is one of only about 10 undergraduate programs in the United
States,” he said.
“The research involved actually started out with senior thesis projects
for two students in the Center of Excellence in Information Systems program last
year - Dusine Jensen and Janel Dopheide,” said White. “These two students
helped me by conducting an e-mail questionnaire relating to offering of courses
and programs on the undergraduate level.”
The students involved in the
senior thesis presented some of the related work in last year’s Center of
Excellence spring symposium as well as at the poster session research
presentations in Pierre during last year’s legislative session.
