Bob and Betty Bowers fund established

MADISON, SD – Dakota State University has established a fund for Bob and Betty Bowers.

On September 29, a tragic one-vehicle accident greatly altered the lives of the Bowers Family of Madison.  Betty has been the coordinator of the Technology for Teaching and Learning (TTL) academies at Dakota State University for the past four years, and she and her husband Bob were enroute to a meeting in Pierre when their car left the road and rolled.  Though Betty’s injuries were relatively minor, Bob suffered extensive brain injuries.

Following the accident, Bob spent several weeks at Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls undergoing a series of surgeries and rehabilitation.  For the past six weeks, he has been in a rehabilitation facility in Rapid City.  On February 6th, Bob will be transferred to the VA Hospital in Minneapolis where he’ll spend 4-6 weeks in an accredited Traumatic Brain Injury Cognitive Rehabilitation unit. It is associated with the University Medical School and has extensive follow-up elements after the resident treatment.  The treatment is very comprehensive and involves family participation.

To assist Bob and Betty with the expenses of this tragic event, Dakota State University has established the Bob and Betty Bowers Fund at First American Bank & Trust of Madison.  Donations can be made by sending checks made out to the Bob and Betty Bowers Fund directly to First American Bank & Trust at 120 North Egan Avenue, Madison, SD  57042.  Donations can also be sent to the DSU President’s Office, 820 North Washington Avenue, Madison, SD  57042.
