Student Housing Project Moves Forward

Madison – After hundreds of planning hours, the student housing project for Dakota State University is moving forward.  The design of the complex is now complete, and two 8-plex units will be leased to the University.  The project also includes two 4-plex units which will be available to the public.  The land, located west of the Dakota Prairie Playhouse, has been acquired and has been annexed to the City of Madison.  Zoning has also been completed.

According to F&L Management & Development, the architectural plans and subdivision plans are being finalized and bids have been awarded.  Construction is set to begin in the next two weeks.

“We are very excited to see this project move forward.  The enrollment growth at DSU caused a need for more housing,” said Dr. Jerald Tunheim, President of DSU.  “This project will allow us to continue to grow and will also boost the economy of Madison.”

The Madison Housing and Redevelopment Commission (HRC) owns all the units and underlying real estate.  The 8-plex units will provide housing for 72 students.

The units are expected to be completed by August, 2001.  Three local banks, F&M Bank, Security Bank, and Wells Fargo Bank, financed the housing project.
