Of Liberal Arts Receives Software Grants (Madison)-The College of Liberal
Arts on the Campus of Dakota State University has received two separate grants
for software from McGraw-Hill and MicroWarehouse.
The grants account for a total savings of $12,789.48 to the university.
The McGraw-Hill grant is for 30 copies of the software package FoodWorks
version 3. The license fees of $199.95 per license were waived, saving DSU
$5,998.50. FoodWorks is a nutrient analysis software for Windows that uses a
simple food selection process that allows the user to master the art of nutrient
analysis. It is designed for use by professionals working in dietetics, fitness
and weight control, food service, recipe development and nutrition education.
“The nutrient software allows DSU students a great amount
of nutritional factors to choose from that influence our daily lives,” says
Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Eric Johnson. He added that anyone can use
the software for several different purposes. “It can be used for athletes to
enhance their performance. Or it can be used to maintain a good healthy diet.”
In a separate agreement, MicroWarehouse has provided 21 copies of the
graphics software, Strata 3DPro version 3.0 for $5,807.97. The normal purchase
price for 21 copies of this particular software is $12,598.95, a savings to DSU
of $6,790.98.
The 3D Strata program is used at the professional level and is a flexible
software package, according to Johnson. “The software offers an enormous
amount of variety of real life factors. It’s extremely flexible and can be
used on both Macs and PC’s,” he said. “The 3D Strata software offers real
live visual effects, a variety of angle and light views and speed of motion.” Students enrolled in ART 391, 3-D Design I, this semester are creating a variety of games including animating child's play with jacks, a bowling alley, and a variety of aircraft. |
