Punzo Named Head Softball Coach, Assistant Athletic
Director (MADISON, SD)- Susan Punzo has been named the Head
Softball Coach and Punzo received her BS in Business Administration Accounting in 1996 and her MS in P.E., Exercise and Sports Science with an emphasis in Sports Administration in 1998 both from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri. As head softball coach at St. Mary’s, Punzo recorded the most wins in school history as a coach, in a single season and in the conference. As a student-athlete at CMSU, Punzo was a three-time All-Conference selection, three-time All-Region pick and a two-time All-American at third base. “Susan brings a tremendous amount of experience to Dakota State,” said DSU Athletic Director, Dr. Thomas Gioglio. “With her expertise and knowledge she’s capable of turning any program around.” Punzo also helped implement several sports at St. Mary’s, including football and baseball. She developed and managed all aspects of the sports information office and designed the athletic department media guides and newsletters. She was also in charge of event management, which along with fundraising will be her primary responsibility as Assistant Athletic Director at DSU. “With her promotional and fundraising ideas, Susan will help enhance the sporting events and scholarship program here at DSU,” Dr. Gioglio said. “I’m excited to be at DSU,” said Punzo. “DSU has a lot to offer and has great support from the community, which is extremely beneficial in the progress of the athletic department as well as the university.”
