DSU’s Phi Beta Lambda Attends Leadership Conference Madison, SD -- Eleven Phi Beta Lambda Business Club members of all
levels (freshmen-senior) represented Dakota State at the 1999 Spring State
Leadership Conference, held in Pierre, SD on Apr. 9 and 10.
They competed against over 100 other students (eight other chapters) from
colleges and universities throughout the state.
They not only took standardized tests in academic areas (business
principles, business law, management, economics, accounting, computer
applications, computer concepts, information management, telecommunications,
among others) but also put their poise and confidence to the test by competing
in a mock job interview and Ms. Future Business Executive events.
These events were judged by local bank presidents and state government
officials in Pierre. The following students represented Dakota State University: Susan Dunn, Megan Beatty, Shannon Proehl, Nick Hansen, Kevin Deilke,
Kim Wicks, Brad Wirth, Kerry Terwilliger, Nicky Volin, Jessica Fritzsche, and
Stacia Alexander. Individual Competitive Events: DSU took home four 1st place, five 2nd place and three 3rd place honors in competition with other chapters, including a 1st and 2nd place sweep in Telecommunications. Seven people placed in the top 3 in at least one event and have earned the right to compete at the National Conference in Long Beach, CA this summer. In addition, the chapter won the web site competition for the second year in a row.
Workshop Presentation: DSU
was the only chapter to present a one-hour workshop at the conference.
Shannon Proehl gave an outstanding introductory workshop on the
topic of designing your first web page. “All of the participants deserve a special commendation for their
superb representation of Dakota State University at this conference.
Their positive attitude and support of each other made the conference
successful and fun for everyone. And
moreover, they made a significant commitment to the future leadership of the
state PBL organization,” said Dr. Dan Talley, co-advisor of PBL at Dakota
State. Dr. Orinda Christoph is the other co-advisor to PBL at DSU. |
