NEW ATHLETIC DIRECTOR APPOINTED AT DAKOTA STATE
(Madison, SD) Dr.
Thomas M. Gioglio, Athletic Director at Saint Mary’s College in Leavenworth,
Kansas, has been appointed as the new Athletic Director for Dakota State
University in Madison, SD. The
announcement was made today by Dr. Jerald Tunheim, DSU President.
“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Gioglio to the Dakota State campus
community,” said Dr. Tunheim. “His
extensive experience and his history of accomplishments, along with his great
energy, will make a welcome addition to our program.”
Dr. Gioglio, a native of New Jersey, received his undergraduate degree in
Physical Education at Montclair State College in Upper Montclair, New Jersey.
He obtained a Master of Science in Secondary Administration at Northern
State University in Aberdeen, SD, where he also served as an assistant
professor, the head wrestling coach, head tennis coach and assistant football
coach. He completed his doctorate
at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia, while also coaching
the wrestling team and teaching.
Gioglio, who will assume his duties in late spring or early summer, has
also held teaching and coaching positions at Minot State University in North
Dakota and at Bishop Ryan High School, also in Minot, North Dakota.
“Athletics is an integral part of the university experience,” said
Dr. Tunheim. “It is our goal to
continue to offer that experience, as broadly and as successfully as possible,
to the students of Dakota State University.
Under Dr. Gioglio’s leadership, we look forward to continued
development in our athletic program. This
is important to the students, be they athletes or fans, and important to our
community as well.”
