Henning Takes Over DSU Volleyball Team (MADISON, SD) - Cindy Henning has been named the
Dakota State University
She was named Greater Dakota Conference Coach of the year for the 1998-99 season and Region 2 coach of the year last season. Her team finished 2nd at the state competition the previous three years. Before taking the position at Washington, Henning was an assistant coach at the University of South Dakota for two seasons. While there she helped with scouting and recruiting as well as assisting with middle and outside hitters. Henning received her BA in English education in 1988 and her MA in sports administration in 1993 both from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO. She also played volleyball while at UNC. After receiving her BA from UNC, Henning coached at Rangley High School in Rangley, CO from 1989 to 1993, leading the team to a 76-25 record and won or tied for the league championship four of those five years. Henning looks at the season as a fresh new start for her and the team. DSU will be starting its first season in the DAC-10 conference with a majority of relatively inexperienced players, including eight freshmen. Henning says her goal on the year is to be competitive and her long-term goal is to take DSU to where it’s recognized at the top of the conference. “I’m looking forward to the challenge and working with the athletes here. We’re not going to be anybody’s doormat.” |
