Freshmen Showcase is tonight and Saturday

The Dakota State University Freshman Showcase will be Friday and Saturday, inside the Performing Arts Center theatre on campus. Admission is just one nonperishable food item. The event gives the 12 freshman actors a chance to showcase their talents and helps stock the shelves of the local food pantry. Theatre Director Susan Conover says no money is needed to attend the event. “We did the same thing last year. Some who attended last year forgot their food item and just gave us money,” said Conover.

She said about 75 attended last year’s showcase and believes that number will increase this year. “Last year was the first time we did the showcase,” she said. “We’ve advertised it a little better and earlier this year, so I expect more people to attend.”

The showcase consists of four, ten minute, one-act plays first presented at the actors theatre of Louisville playwriting contests. Actors in the four plays include Sara Wendtland and Jacque Miller in Watermelon Boats. In Mental Reservation, Chad Lindquist and Stacy McKenna are cast; Shane Wassink, Ivan Vande Griend, Jenny Larsen and April Krootje will star in Apres Opera and in Marred Bliss the cast will be Jered Hight, Rob Dale, Michelle Richards and Nicole Thompson. The shows start at 7pm both nights.
