Fieldhouse Undergoing Renovations

Along with the addition of the new Community Center on the campus of Dakota State, the DSU Fieldhouse is undergoing some renovations for the coming year. According to DSU first year athletic director, Dr. Tom Gioglio, the renovations came down to a retention issue. “In order to recruit and retain student athletes it was necessary to renovate the building,” said Dr. Gioglio. “It’s nice to come to a college that is very progressive in its thinking and strives for complete excellence.”

Training roomPart of the renovations include a new, larger training room, located in what used to be the weight room of the Fieldhouse. The new facility is complete with an office for Athletic Trainer, Brad Gilbert, three training tables and two rehabilitation tubs. The area is larger than the previous training room and has more equipment. The old training room has been converted into expanded locker space.

A wall was taken out of the men’s basketball locker room to allow for access to the shower and bathroom facilities. New fixtures and accessories will be installed as well. Before, there was no access from the changing room to the showers. This new set up allows for more privacy in the locker room.

Bathroom facilities at the main entrance of the Fieldhouse are also being upgraded as well as providing for handicap accessibility. The bathrooms will be painted and new tile will be installed

A new office was constructed next to the AD’s office for the assistant athletic director, Susan Punzo.

The athletes weight room will now be located in the DSU Wellness Center, which used to house the campus weight room, now located in the new Community Center.

The renovations should be completed by the start of Fall Semester.
