E-Commerce Symposium planned at DSU

Madison – The Center of Excellence in Computer Information Systems (CECIS) at Dakota State University will be hosting its 3rd Annual Symposium on Monday, April 10th.  The symposium’s topic is “Electronic Commerce in the Year 2000” and will feature speakers from companies engaged in e-commerce and faculty/students engaged in teaching and research in this field.

The following corporations will be presenting this year:  Gateway, Norwest Bank, Schwan’s, US West, and Prostrollo’s All-American Auto Mall.  There will also be sessions presented by faculty and students.  Topics include “Identifying E-Commerce Users”, “The Diversity of Academic Programs in E-Commerce”, “Academic Programs in E-Commerce”, and “The Importance of Databases in Effective E-Commerce Strategy”.  A session will also be presented on “Recruiting Computer Science/Information Systems Graduates in Today’s Labor Market.”  In addition, Sioux Valley Wireless will be on hand to provide information on their new wireless internet connections.

“This symposium is designed to give attendees an insight into what a variety of companies are doing in electronic commerce, and to introduce them to some of the research faculty and students are undertaking at DSU,” said Dr. Terry Dennis, Director of CECIS at Dakota State.

Registration is $10 for those who pre-register and $15 at the door.  A soup and sandwich buffet luncheon and morning and afternoon refreshments are included in the registration fee.  The symposium will be at the Dakota Prairie Playhouse and Conference Center on DSU’s campus.

The Center of Excellence in Computer Information Systems was established with the following goals: to promote academic programs designed to educate graduates who can take the lead in the development and application of information technology tools, to conduct CIS-related research, to provide expert consultation statewide, and to sponsor an annual symposium on current computer-related topics.
