Anderberg New DSU Health Nurse Vonnie
Anderberg, Registered Nurse and Health Information Technician, was hired
as the Dakota State University nurse, September 8, 2000. Her main duties at DSU are screening and triage of ill
students, and referring an appropriate source of treatment for them.
She will follow up with her patients on a routine basis to make certain
their health needs are being met. Anderberg makes an effort to teach students
ways to optimize their own health and encourages avoidance of behaviors that
could be detrimental to their health. She
addresses the needs and serves as health advocate on behalf of all students as
well as assists faculty whenever possible. “I am
delighted to be a part of DSU and have the privilege of meeting so many
wonderful young people in the student body and working with outstanding
faculty,” said Anderberg. Anderberg
says there have been some special challenges this semester with severe injuries
and the resultant surgeries for students far from home –lacking any family
support systems. Student Health
participates in student reproductive health issues in cooperation with Community
Health and Interlakes Medical Clinic. The
student health nurse plays a big role in immunization compliance set forth by
the SD Board of Regents. No job is
finished until the paper work is done, so there are always supply and budget
issues to deal with. Anderberg
was born and raised in South Dakota. She
attended Lyons High School and started nurses training at Sioux Valley Hospital
School of Nursing the day after high school graduation. After
completing that RN program she married Les Anderberg.
They recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.
They have four children, two boys and two girls. After
Vonnie’s children were grown she returned to school at Michigan State
University to complete the Bachelor of Nursing program. And after returning to
South Dakota in 1997, she attended Dakota State University to complete the
Health Information Technician program. Over
time she lived and worked in St.Louis, Missouri, Battle Creek, Michigan,
Honolulu, Hawaii, and Gallup, New Mexico. Vonnie
worked in ICU, ER, surgery, nursing administration and kidney dialysis in a
hospital setting in Michigan. In
Hawaii she worked newborn nursery and pediatric clinic for the Army and Navy.
In New Mexico and Arizona, she worked for Indian Health Service in
Pediatric Clinics. |
