Description and instructions for access:

Proquest is a subscription database service with access restricted to Dakota State University students, faculty and staff.  Its databases provide citations, abstracts and often the complete text of magazine, journal and newspaper articles. Some databases are general (that is, covering all topics) but are aimed at different audiences. Some databases are specialized (by subject) so are able to provide more depth of coverage about the subject.

ABI/INFORM Complete      -- Search full-text business periodicals and news sources from ABI/INFORM Global, Dateline, and Trade & Industry. Resources for K-12 Students  SIRS Discoverer -- grades K-6  (alternate link: alternate access to SIRS D) 
Has articles and graphics from more than 1,600 U.S. and international magazines, newspapers and U.S. government documents, which were carefully selected for their educational content, interest and level of readability for middle and elementary curriculum topics. It includes activities, biographies, country facts, careers, fiction, holidays, photo essays, pictures, and maps of the world.

 SIRS Researcher -- grades 6-12 (alternate link: alternate access to SIRS R)
Is a general reference database containing thousands of full-text articles exploring social, scientific, health, historic, business, economic, political and global issues. Articles and graphics are selected from 1,500 domestic and international publications.

To begin searching, click on the link to All Proquest Databases, and choose a database to search (by using the "Database" dropdown menu or by clicking on the link beside it to "select multiple databases")

How to access this resource from off-campus:

If you are off-campus and linking here from an Internet provider other than DSU, you will be asked to enter a library ID number and a password  

  1. The library ID numbers for DSU students, faculty, and staff all begin with the numbers 21578.... You can find this number on the front of your DSU ID card. Distance students, who do not have ID cards, will receive this library ID number (not a card) from the Office of Distance Education. If you do not know your library ID number, please contact the library.. 
  2. The password is your last name (for example, smith).  
  3. Type the 14-digit ID number in the top box and type the password in the lower box.  
    For example: 
    21578000000000
    smith
     
  4. DID YOU GET AN ERROR MESSAGE?  If you get an error message  (common examples include: “Internal System Error (211)”  or "missing parameter to login" or another login protocol error), go to the URL http://www.umi.com/cookiecutter and click on refresh browser.  Then try again.
