Student Handbook
Services.
The Karl E. Mundt Library provides an outstanding range of library services as
well as a solid collection of reference and curricular support materials for the
use of the students, faculty and staff of Dakota State University.
Library services available to you, the student, include the online
library catalog, a variety of other online databases for research, web-based
tutorials and guides, Internet access, interlibrary loans, research skills
training, course reserve materials, a computer lab, and audiovisual equipment.
Hours. The
library building is regularly open seven days a week, but 24-hour access to many
library resources and services is available through the World Wide Web.
Visit the library's homepage (http://www.departments.dsu.edu/library) to
search for information, request services, and learn more about the Library.
For regular and holiday building hours, see the
Library Hours web page.
Your
ID is important. The
library barcode ID number is necessary for searching library research databases
from off-campus. In order for you
to borrow anything (including reserve materials to be photocopied) you must
present your valid DSU ID card – so please don’t leave home without it! Library copiers are equipped with Flex readers for your
convenience.
Bookdrop. You are responsible for the proper care and return of all
of the materials you check out from the library.
Please return material in the
outside or inside bookdrops. Material
left on the counter of the front desk can be easily lost or misplaced.
When and if this happens, you are responsible for the cost of its
replacement.
Overdue
Materials. You are responsible for returning the materials you check
out of the library. Our chief
concern is that the materials are returned and in good order.
Different classes of materials have different overdue fines ranging from
$.05/day to $1.00/hour. Most item
classes have a grace period before the fines begin to accumulate. Please avoid overdue fines by returning your materials on
time or by renewing them.
Renewal
of library materials. Three ways to renew!
You can renew any material that you have checked out by 1) calling the
library circulation desk at 256-5203; 2) using the RENEW commands on SDLN (from
the Library homepage, select SDLN, click on the web version, select “Patron
Information," select “renew titles linked to your patron record); or 3)
bringing the materials to the library in-person.
Lost
or Damaged Materials. You are responsible for their care and for
returning the materials you check out of the library.
You will be charged the replacement price of the material plus an $8.00
processing fee for each lost or damaged library item.
You are encouraged to make maximum use of
the staff, collections and facilities.
Use your Library!
All the best students do!
