Search tips (by
netLibrary)
NetLibrary is
a subscription database with access restricted to Dakota State University
students, faculty and staff.
NetLibrary is a
searchable collection of online books (eBooks). The
Public Collection contains public domain eBooks (approximately 4000)
that are free to anyone. The Library Collection contains eBooks
that the library has purchased.
- Find
eBooks in NetLibrary in two ways: 1) Use the
"Search NetLibrary" link above to enter NetLibrary and
search; or 2)
use
Dakota State's Library Catalog
to search
for a topic (and look for "NetLibrary" in the Call Number
column on the results screen to identify which books are
online in NetLibrary).
- View eBooks
You
can view an eBook online for as long as you wish, provided
you are actively using the book (that is, navigating from one page to another).
After 15 minutes of inactivity in a particular
eBook, your access will timeout (the eBook will go back into general circulation
and you'll lose your place in the book).
-
Create a free account
If you wish to use the Notes
feature to take notes on a page of a book, you will need to
create an account within NetLibrary. This is your
personal login and password for Netlibrary, not your DSU
Library ID and password.
- Can eBooks be downloaded?
No, the eBooks from netLibrary cannot be downloaded.
If you are off-campus,
you will be required to login with a username and password.
For more information and login instructions, see
Login Instructions
After
successfully logging in, you may create a personal account in
NetLibrary if you wish to save notes in NetLibrary or use other
custom features. However, a personal account is not necessary to
read the eBooks. After creating a personal account, you will
be able to
go straight to
www.netlibrary.com and login
with your personal NetLibrary account name and password (bypassing
login with your Library ID number and password). If unable to create
a personal account,
distance students
may contact the library to obtain a NetLibrary
username and password. [Please indicate that you are distance
student
when you send your
request to us.
If you visit campus, you can "create an account" in
NetLibrary while on-campus].
