Evaluating Native American Sources

Techniques for Evaluating American Indian Web Sites, by Elaine M. Cubbins, MA-IRLS -- purpose of this Web page is to provide some guidelines useful for evaluating and identifying Web sites that contain accurate information and that are not exploitative of American Indians. [10/30/2003]

American Indian History and Related Issues -- "dedicated to the presentation of unique artwork, photographs, video and sound recordings which accurately reflect the history, culture and richness of the Native American experience in North America and has been expanded to include Indian people of Central America and Mexico." Native Web: Resources for Indigenous Cultures around the World -- "NativeWeb is an international, nonprofit, educational organization dedicated to using telecommunications including computer technology and the Internet to disseminate information from and about native or Indigenous nations, peoples and organizations around the world; to foster communication between native and non-native peoples; to conduct research involving native peoples' usage of technology and the Internet; and to provide resources, mentoring, and services to facilitate native use of this technology." Native American Constitution and Law Digitization Project -- "This Project is a cooperative effort among the University of Oklahoma Law Center, the National Indian Law Library (NILL), and Native American tribes providing access to the Constitutions, Tribal Codes, and other legal documents." Indigenous Nations: Sites of Interest, by Gina Matesic (published in C&RL News, January 2004) -- "This column contains a selective list of resources that cover international and regional resources. The term indigenous peoples is used inclusively, and is intended to respectfully encompass First Nations, Aboriginal, Indian, Inuit, and other people throughout the world." [10/28/2004]
