Description and instructions for access:

InfoSECURITYnetBASE is a subscription information service with access restricted to Dakota State University students, faculty and staff.

It provides full-text online books about information security.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:  When using Browse to go to a book, click on "Read It Now" and a pdf document containing introductory sections and the Table of Contents will open.  You must use the links in the Table of Contents to get to the rest of the book.

  • You may need to change your browser setup to open pdf's within the browser so that the links are active in the Table of Contents.
  • You will need to use Adobe Reader
  • You may need to double-click (rather than single-click) items in the Table of Contents to link to the section you want.

After clicking on the link to search InfoSECURITYnetBASE, you may choose to browse or to search the collection of books.

If you are off-campus, follow instructions for How to access this resource from off-campus

How to access this resource from off-campus:

If you are off-campus, you will be required to login with a username and password.

  1. The username is your 14-digit library ID number.  The library ID numbers for DSU students, faculty, and staff all begin with the numbers 21578....  (for example:  21578000000000). You can find this number on the front of your DSU ID card. Distance students, who do not have ID cards, will receive this library ID number (not a card) from the Office of E-Education Services. If you do not know your library ID number, please contact the library.
  2. The password is your last name (for example, smith).
  3. SPECIAL NOTE about InformationSECURITYnetBASE:  When a book is selected to be read in InfoSecurityNetBase, it opens a short document in pdf format that includes the Table of Contents.  To get into the full content of the book, you must be able to link to chapters or sections from the Table of Contents.
    • Therefore, it is key requirement that you open the pdf in the browser (rather than downloading it) so that the links in the Table of Contents will work.  When you browse and find a book you wish to read, select it and click “Read It Online.” Look for the Table of Contents in the document and make sure the contents are live links.  If not, reconfigure your setup so that the document will open in the browser and the Table of Contents does have clickable links.
    • Mac users: If the Mac automatically opens pdf’s in a Preview mode that does not display linkable links, download Adobe Reader and change the setup to open pdf’s in Adobe Reader.

      1.  download Adobe Acrobat Reader for the Mac into the applications folder

      2.  Use Finder to find one document that you have previously downloaded in pdf format

      3. Click once on the file to select it. Then use the File menu and select Get Info

      4. In the Get Info window, change "Open with" to Adobe Reader.  [You may click on "Change All" if you want all pdf's to open this way]

      5. Now, when you open the book in InfoSecurityNetBase, it will open in Adobe Reader.

      6. IMPORTANT: you must DOUBLE-CLICK the links in the Table of Contents. A single click will not open the file.

    • If single-clicking aTable of Contents link does not work, try double-clicking the link instead.

    • Additional information is available by clicking on “Technical Support” in the left navigation bar on the InfoSecurityNetBase home page.

If you are unable to login with your ID and password, please contact the library.
