How to
access this resource from off-campus
InfoSECURITYnetBASE
is a subscription information service with
access restricted to Dakota State University students, faculty and staff.
It provides full-text online
books about information security.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:
When using Browse to go to a book, click on "Read It Now" and a pdf document
containing introductory sections and the Table of Contents will open. You
must use the links in the Table of Contents to get to the rest of the book.
- You
may need to change your browser setup to open pdf's
within the browser so that the links are active in the
Table of Contents.
- You
will need to use Adobe Reader
- You
may need to double-click (rather than single-click)
items in the Table of Contents to link to the section you
want.
After clicking on the link to search
InfoSECURITYnetBASE,
you may choose to browse or to search the
collection of books.
If you are off-campus, follow instructions for
How to
access this resource from off-campus
If you are off-campus,
you will be required to login with a username and password.
- The username is your
14-digit library ID number. The library ID numbers for DSU students,
faculty, and staff all begin with the numbers
21578.... (for example:
21578000000000). You can find this number on the front
of your DSU ID card. Distance students,
who do not have ID cards, will receive this
library ID number (not a card) from the Office of E-Education
Services. If you do not know your library ID number, please
contact
the library.
- The password is your last name (for example, smith).
- SPECIAL NOTE about
InformationSECURITYnetBASE: When
a book is selected to be read in InfoSecurityNetBase, it opens a
short document in pdf format that includes the Table of Contents.
To get into the full content of the book,
you must be
able to link to chapters or sections from the Table of Contents.

Therefore,
it is key requirement that you open the pdf in the browser
(rather than downloading it) so that the links in the Table of
Contents will work. When
you browse and find a book you wish to
read, select it and click “Read It Online.”
Look for the Table of Contents in the document and make
sure the contents are live links. If not, reconfigure your
setup so that the document will open in the browser and the
Table of Contents does have clickable
links.

Mac users:
If the Mac automatically opens pdf’s
in a Preview mode that does not display linkable links,
download Adobe Reader and change the setup to open pdf’s
in Adobe Reader.
1. download
Adobe
Acrobat Reader
for the Mac into the applications folder
2. Use Finder
to find one document that you have previously downloaded in pdf
format
3. Click once
on the file to select it. Then use the File menu and select Get
Info
4. In the Get
Info window, change "Open with" to Adobe Reader.
[You may click on "Change All"
if you want all pdf's to open this way]
5. Now, when
you open the book in
InfoSecurityNetBase, it will open in Adobe Reader.
6. IMPORTANT:
you must DOUBLE-CLICK the links in the Table of Contents. A
single click will not open the file.

Contents link does not work, try double-clicking the link
instead.
