     Search tips:
  • Use quotation marks (“ ”) to search for exact phrases (that is, two words must be side-by-side in the article): 
    "missouri river"
  • To find articles in which the words appear but do not have to be side-by-side, connect the words with AND:
    darwin and evolution 
  • The asterisk (*) is used for right-hand truncation to get multiple word endings. For example, to retrieve articles with the words educate, educates, educator, educators, education, educational, type:

Description and instructions for access:

EBSCOhost is a subscription information service with access restricted to Dakota State University students, faculty and staff.  It provides several research databases (listed below) that have citations to magazine, journal and newspaper articles and that also include the full-text of many of the articles

After clicking on the link to Search Ebsco research databases, click on EBSCOhost Web, and then choose one or more of the following databases (by clicking on the checkbox beside each database) or use the links below to connect directly.

  • Academic Search Premier. Provides full text for more than 4,600 scholarly publications, including full text for more than 3,500 peer-reviewed journals. Coverage spans virtually every area of academic study and offers information dating as far back as 1975. This database is updated on a daily basis.

  •  Business Source Premier. Provides full text for more than 8,500 scholarly business journals and other sources, including full text for more than 1,100 peer-reviewed business publications. Coverage includes virtually all subject areas related to business. This database provides full text (PDF) for more than 350 of the top scholarly journals dating as far back as 1922. This database is updated on a daily basis.

  • Regional Business News. Provides comprehensive full text coverage for regional business publications. Regional Business News incorporates coverage of 75 business journals, newspapers and newswires from all metropolitan and rural areas within the United States. This database is updated on a daily basis.

  • MasterFILE Premier. Designed specifically for public libraries, this multidisciplinary database provides full text for more than 2,050 general reference publications with full text information dating as far back as 1975. Covering virtually every subject area of general interest, MasterFILE Premier also includes more than 350 full text reference books, 84,074 biographies, 86,132 primary source documents, and an Image Collection of 107,135 photos, maps and flags. This database is updated daily via EBSCOhost.

  • EBSCO MegaFILE MegaFILE is comprised of EBSCO’s Academic Search Premier, Business Source Premier, MasterFILE Premier and Regional Business News databases.

  • Library, Information Science, & Technology (LIST) Abstracts. Indexes more than 600 periodicals, plus books, research reports and proceedings. Subject coverage includes librarianship, classification, cataloging, bibliometrics, online information retrieval, information management and more. How to access this resource from off-campus:

If you are off-campus, you will be required to login with a username and password.

  1. The username is your 14-digit library ID number.  The library ID numbers for DSU students, faculty, and staff all begin with the numbers 21578....  (for example:  21578000000000). You can find this number on the front of your DSU ID card. Distance students, who do not have ID cards, will receive this library ID number (not a card) from the Library. If you do not know your library ID number, please contact us.
  2. The password is your last name (for example, smith).
