ebrary is a subscription information service with
access restricted to Dakota State University students, faculty and staff.
Our
ebrary subscription to
Academic Complete provides over 43,000 online books
from major publishers that cover a wide range of topics. There is no limit on
the number of people who can access a single online book at the same time.
"QuickView" allows instant viewing of books in your
browser. In Quickview, you can navigate through
the book using Table of Contents, Chapter Ranking, and other
paging features. You can take notes, copy and paste, and add
items to Endnote.
An alternative to QuickView is
to click on the blue ebrary Reader
button to open a different Reader. To
understand the differences between Quickview and the Plug In and
Unity Readers,
read
comparisons of the readers. The Unity Reader
is the only one that offers text-to-speech. Users who wish
to switch from the Plug-in Reader (Windows & Mac)
to the Unity Reader (Java based; Windows &
Linux/Unix) must go to "My Settings" to make the change.
The blue ebrary Reader button will open whichever Reader has
been selected as the preference in "My Settings."Installing
the ebrary Reader on your computer:
You should be
prompted to install the ebrary Reader the first time you click
on the blue ebrary Reader button, which appears on every
QuickView page.
- Windows:
Both the Plug-in Reader and the Unity Reader are supported
by Windows. The Plug-in Reader is the default download.
- To use the
Unity Reader, go to My Settings and change your Reader
preferences to the Unity Reader).
The blue ebrary Reader button will then open the Unity
Reader instead of the Plug-In
-
Mac:
Only the Plug-in Reader is supported for the Mac. If you are
using Firefox 3 and have trouble installing, see ebrary
Knowledgebase
article about problems.
-
Linus/Unix:
Only the Unity Reader is supported on Linux/Unix. It
requires Java 1.6. You should be prompted to install the
Unity Reader automatically the first time you click on the
ebrary Reader button. For help with installation problems,
see ebrary Knowledgebase
article on installing the Unity Reader.
