Module 3: SDLN Examples and Practice Previous Next

To practice using the South Dakota Library Network (SDLN), you need to open a second window in your Web browser (Netscape, Internet Explorer, etc.) so that you have the research manual "Basic Research in the Virtual Library" open in one window while having SDLN open in the second. You will then be able to switch back and forth between this module and the SDLN window.

To open a second window in Netscape and Internet Explorer
1. go to the File menu,
2. select New,
3. then select Window.

To switch from the SDLN window back to this window
use the buttons on the bottom of your screen to select the other window;
or hold down the ALT key and pressing the Tab key (ALT-Tab);
or use a different method appropriate to your software & hardware.

To open SDLN in the second browser window, follow this procedure:

1. In the 2nd browser window, go to the Mundt Library's homepage.

2. Click on the "SD Library Network" link
(in the yellow Search Tools  section of the Library's home page)

3. Click on the button to connect to the "web version" of SDLN
(which will take you to a screen to "Select Library & Resource")

4. Then switch from the SDLN window back to this window

****
Now, go to the
Mundt Library homepage in the other browser window, open SDLN as described above, and return here to the first browser window.
*****

Have you returned to the manual successfully, keeping SDLN open in another window? If you need help, please send questions by e-mail to Risė.

If you successfully opened SDLN, continue on in this manual to see examples and practice using the SD Library Network.
