Practice Searching
It is your turn to search the Library Catalog. Follow the directions below. Click on a record or two for each search. Review the records for Location, Availability, Title, Author and Subjects.
1. Open the catalog: Library Catalog
After opening Library Catalog, click the Library Catalog again
NOTE: You will notice a "Change Library" pull down menu on the search screen, select Dakota State University.
2. Perform a keyword search: type in, distance learning. You should retrieve approximately 75 records. Select a record and view the available information describing the title.
3. New Search: Select New Search on the top left or scroll
to the bottom of the screen.
4. Author Search: Now search for books by the author Elmore
Leonard. You should retrieve 4 records. Click on the "New Search"
icon.
5. Title keyword: Search distance learning. You will retrieve less from keyword search because you are only searching the title. Click the "New Search" icon.
6. Title exact: search distance learning. You will retrieve only one or two records. [Item titles have to start with the words "distance learning" for this search. Thus, only use this search when you know the exact title]. Since you retrieved a low number of record, select a record (if there is only one the record will already be displayed) and click on one of the Subject fields. This will perform a subject heading search.
