NOT
You can use NOT to exclude certain words from a search. Using NOT means that any article that contains the NOT words will not be retrieved.
For Example: Internet NOT www
Using this search in a periodical index would retrieve articles with the term Internet, but would exclude any article if www is in the record, even if Internet is in it. NOT narrows your search.
This is useful when a term or subject has multiple meanings or
uses. The NOT can exclude other meanings or uses.
For Example: If you were doing research on the ship Titantic, but want to exclude information about the film. Use this search - titantic NOT film
PRACTICE:
1. Still using EBSCOhost Academic Search Premier
2. Type in the keyword shakespeare, and click Search. Look at the number of results.
(select Basic Search to perform this search)
3. Change search to, shakespeare NOT william. Look at the results.
4. You will notice the number of results is less
