Electronic Record
Each book, journal, article, movie, etc. has a corresponding electronic
record, which describes the item, and this record is housed in a
database. The record describes the item (author, title, subject,
abstract, etc.) and this description helps you decide if the item
is useful to your current query. Also, you can use the information
in the record to help you find similar items.
The electronic format has replaced most printed search tools (e.g.
card catalog). You can search for these records by using keywords
and subject headings. Module 3 will cover using the library catalog
and research databases.
