Classifications of Students

POLICY

Students are classified according to the number of credit hours earned and posted to their academic record at Dakota State University. 

The total credit hours earned and posted to the student’s academic record determine the classification of the student according to the following chart:

Freshman…………………………………..…..31.99 or fewer semester hours

Sophomore….…………………………………32-63.99 semester hours

Junior………………………………………….64-95.99 semester hours

Senior………………………………………….96 semester hours or more 

Total credit hours are all hours earned at accredited institutions from which the University has received official transcripts in support of the student’s transfer.  These credits affect the student's classification, whether or not they pertain to the student’s declared program at Dakota State University.
