1. Briefly describe the nominee’s job duties.
The short version is that they are primarily responsible of the recruitment
of new students to DSU. This includes attending college fairs, scheduling
high school visits, communicating with students and their families,
developing recruitment publications including the admission website,
organizing Discover DSU Days and other campus events, directing the
communications center, implementing direct mail projects, coordinating the
parent program, communicating financial aid and scholarship opportunities,
reviewing data to drive decision making, developing new markets,
advising the Student Ambassadors, reviewing transcripts and participating on
campus
committees and projects.
2. Describe the nominee’s dedication and interest in getting the job done,
his/her personal and professional strengths, and the quantity and quality of
his/her work.
Each of them has a dedication to developing relationships with our
prospective students and their families. They show an interest in the
successful implementation of the university’s recruitment plan. They each
have varying strengths which allows for a high level of teamwork whether in
direct recruiting responsibilities or day to day office tasks.
3. Describe the nominee’s adaptability to circumstances and creative problem
solving
ability. Include examples of exceptional and/or significant contributions
during the past
12 months.
This past year, our consulting relationship with Noel-Levitz required that
they add
responsibilities to their plate and make adjustments to some of their past
recruiting practices. They adapted well and were engaged in the planning
process for new strategies. That enthusiasm has extended into this summer
and early fall as we make preparations to further enhance our recruiting
plan. Some examples of major projects undertaken are the development and
implementation of the tele-communications center, the management of the
Admission Genie website project, the facilitation of a revamped direct mail
project and the organization of oncampus events attended by various high
school classes.
4. Describe the nominee’s ability to interact/work well with others.
The responsibilities of the job and the office set-up in Enrollment Services
necessitate strong communication, interaction and team building skills. They
work well with their colleagues including faculty and staff, with
prospective students and their families, with current students, high school
counselors, outside vendors and others who stop or make contact with our
office as the “store front” of the university.
5. Describe any special service to fellow employees, the university
community or to other individuals, organizations or communities.
Corey is a member of the CSA Council and was one of the trainers for
Advanced Connections this summer. Alan is a member of the athletic
fundraising committee and the marketing advisory council and also is the
advisor to the Student Ambassadors. Kelly is a member of the parent program
committee and has lent her skills as a photographer to our office and to
others across campus. They have served on various search and screen
committees and participated in other short and long-term projects on campus.
6. Are there any other ways in which the nominee has distinguished
himself/herself?
I’d like to acknowledge their dedication to the success of our recruiting
plan this past year and for continuing that dedication as we enter a new
recruiting cycle. While the recognition is aimed at the work they put into
the planning and implementation of the many recruitment strategies we
developed, it should be noted that they were ultimately successful and that
new student enrollment is up nearly 20% for the fall.
