Employee of the Month

      Shelly Dick


1. Briefly describe the nominee’s job duties.

Shelly assists faculty, staff, students and off-campus customers who come to the production center with printing and postal needs. She provides ideas and suggestions to them regarding their requests. Shelly maintains the billing system for on-campus printing including the remote copiers and also handles the task of postage billings for UPS, Federal Express and US Postal Services. Along with processing daily mail, she also processes the large bulk mailings that are sent from many University departments. Shelly also keeps adequate paper and supplies on hand for theprint shop.

2. Describe the nominee’s dedication and interest in getting the job done, his/her personaland professional strengths, and the quantity and quality of his/her work.

Shelly is an outstanding employee who takes pride in what she does. She is helpful, courteous, and prompt in assisting customers and if unsure of an answer, willingly offers to find out and provides information back to the customer. Shelly provides top-notch service to the customer, which is her number one priority.

3. Describe the nominee’s adaptability to circumstances and creative problem solving
ability. Include examples of exceptional and/or significant contributions during the past
12 months.

As stated above, Shelly always provides excellent customer service. She is personable and pleasant to work with. One of the many excellent services that Shelly provides is to seek out different options for mailing letters or packages. As distance education increases, the Production Center sees faculty and staff mailing information to places all over the world. Many of them need to include different customs documents and Shelly does an excellent job in making sure the correct documents are provided along with the appropriate postal rate attached.

4. Describe the nominee’s ability to interact/work well with others.

Shelly is a very outgoing and makes people feel welcome when they come to the production center. She provides options that are available for various situations and allows the customer to make their choice.

5. Describe any special service to fellow employees, the university community or to other individuals, organizations or communities.

Shelly is married and has three children, and is involved with many school and athletic events. She is also a member of the United Methodist Church and has served as an assistant teacher for Sunday school.

6. Are there any other ways in which the nominee has distinguished himself/herself?

Shelly enjoys being a part of Dakota State University. She enjoys working with people and is exceptional in dealing with the students who are sometimes uncertain of what they really need done. She always puts the customer first and takes time to let them know what services andoptions are available.
