Employee of the Month

     Karen Alfson

1. Briefly describe the nominee’s job duties.

Karen is responsible for Local transfers, all purchasing, state account vouchers & transfers, all travel

2. Describe the nominee’s dedication and interest in getting the job done, his/her personaland professional strengths, and the quantity and quality of his/her work.

As you know, the Board of Regents institutions began a complex implementation of a new HR/Finance Information System earlier this year. Karen is involved in the Purchasing Module, in addition to learning to use the system to carry out her other responsibilities. During part of the time, Karen was undergoing treatment for cancer. Although there were days when she didn't feel well, she was still concerned about
pulling her weight and getting her job done. It is a tribute to her dedication to her job, her co-workers, and to DSU.

3. Describe the nominee’s ability to interact/work well with others.

I believe Karen's calm disposition allows her to very effectively deal with employees who need assistance with travel or purchasing regulations. She always approaches people with a pleasant attitude and has the best interests of the institution in mind.
