"Fantasticks"One of the most popular plays performed at Dakota State College was The Fantasticks. This theatrical production is considered one of the most popular American musical comedies and is currently the longest running off-Broadway show in the nation. (21) The first recorded local production of The Fantasticks was directed by James L. Johnson, December 9-11, 1965. Five plays were performed that year but The Fantasticks was the most popular of the productions. According to the Eastern, the Kennedy Center auditorium was filled to capacity and The Fantasticks was one of the best plays written and performed during that time period. Tickets were sold to the public at $1.25 per seat. Lead actors in the Dakota State College production were Marci Scott, Dan Bohl, Dennis Bossman, and Ray Peterson.
