Dr. Carrol Krause
Provost (1974-78)
Dr. Carrol Krause, became Provost of DSC on
July 1, 1974 when DSC was administratively attached to the University of
South Dakota.
He served as Provost of the University of South Dakota at Springfield
since July of 1971 and was also Provost of University of South Dakota in
Vermillion. His contributions to these colleges during a
particularly trying period have been outstanding.
Dr. Krause was born at Petersburg, Nebraska, and graduated from
Petersburg High School. Upon graduation from high school he
entered the U.S. Army where he served with distinction while assigned to
an artillery unit in Korea from 1954 to 1955.
He holds B.A.E. and M.S. Degrees from Wayne State College of Nebraska
and an Ed. D Degree from the University of Nebraska. He attended
the University of Minnesota and was awarded a Post-Doctoral Fellowship
at the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida, during the 1970-71
school year.
Dr. Krause's previous experience in the field of education is
extremely varied and includes the superintendent at Gresham and Yutan,
Nebraska, High Schools, the high school principal at Mead, Nebraska, and
a teaching position at Seward, Nebraska, Prior to become Provost
of the University, he served as Chairman of the Division of Education
and Psychology at the University of South Dakota at Springfield.
He was the Chairman of the State Advisory Council on Vocational
Education, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Family Training
Center in Glasgow, Montana, member of the Board of Directors of the
Mundt Foundation and Regional Representative for the American
Association of State Colleges and Universities.
He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, the Elks, the Vermillion Chamber
of Commerce and the Springfield Development Corporation as well as
numerous other fraternal, community and professional groups.
Dr. Krause and his wife, Joan, have six children and reside in
Vermillion.
