Dr. Laurence Samuel Flaum
President (1962-67)
"Dr. Flaum was born in El Paso, Texas on February 11, 1911 to
Boris & Belle Flaum. In 1937 he married Hazel Catherine Anderson. They
had two daughters. He attended the Universities of Texas and Arizona and
then went to Columbia University from which he obtained both his A. B. and
M.A. degrees. He then earned his Ed. D. at Colorado State College.
"He became a high school principal and superintendent of school
first in New York and later in Nebraska. He was Director of Education at
Drake University for 12 years. He was Dean of College at Minot State
College in Minot, ND for four years.
"From 1962-67 he was president of General Beadle State College.
While in Madison, he belonged to Phi Delta Kappa, Kappa Delta Pi, Masons,
Elks, Kiwanis and the Presbyterian Church.
"At the age of 85, Dr. Flaum died on December 29, 1996 in a
Charleston, S.C. hospital".

Cemetery in Hastings. J. Henry Stuhr Inc. Downtown Chapel of Charleston
in charge of arrangements.
"Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Susan Hesser of Fort
Lauderdale, Fla., and Gwen Perkins of Hartford, Conn.; and four
grandchildren."
