Monica Matthies-Severson
Monica Matthies-Severson graduated from Dakota State in 1985. While at her alma mater, she gained many honors in women's basketball. She was named NAIA Academic All American in 1984. Monica was NAIA All American, Honorable Mention in 1985 and gained All District-12 honors in 1984 and 1985. She was named to the SDIC All Conference team in 1984 and 1985. She was the SDIC Most Valuable Player in 1984. Severson was named DSU Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year in 1984-85 and was named DSU Alumni Coach of the Year in 1993.
Severson has taught and coached at Wartburg College since 1988. She was named Converse Coach of the Year for Division III District 6 in 1993. She is ranked the 6th winningest active women's basketball coach for Division III with an overall record of 157-52.
Monica was named the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference coach of the year in 1992. She earned Conference titles in 1990 and 1992. Her teams have made six NCAA appearances with "Final 8" finishes in 1992 and 1993.
