Joe "Midge" Iosco

Joe "Midge" Iosco hails from Melrose Park, IL, where he attended Proviso East High School, where he was all-suburban and all-state in football. He was offered a scholarship from Head Coach Bill Bulfer at Dakota State, and played center & linebacker for Dakota State during the 1948-49-50 seasons.

The 1948 team finished third in the Conference, and had a 4-3-1 record, and the Trojans defeated Black Hills State on Homecoming 21-19. Iosco was also a Basketball player for Dakota State, and majored in Physical Education. Several of Iosco's team mates are familiar Madison names, including Bill Stearns, Cal Mathison, Pete Struwe, Virgil Sterling, and Ed Tyc.

After graduation, he spent one year as a teacher, before leaving to pursue a career as a professional athlete in 1951, Iosco signed with the Chicago Bears, of the National Football League, but a back injury kept him from his opportunity to play.

In 1954, he accepted a position with Western & Southern Life Insurance Company, where he worked for the next 34 years as a top salesperson. He was also employed as a member of the Melrose Park Youth Commission for nine years. Also, over the period of 21 years, he served as School Board President for his local school district
