Bob Nangle 

Bob Nangle attended Dakota State University (General Beadle State Teachers' College) from 1957 to 1961 graduating with a B.S. Degree in Social Studies and Physical Education. In 1968, he received a Masters Degree in Physical Education/Administration from South Dakota State University.

While attending GBSTC, Bob played football starting on both offense and defense for four years. he never missed a game in those four years. In 1957, Bob was selected to the All-Conference Football Team. Also that year, the football team had the best record in the school's history. In 1959, GBSTC beat Northern State Teachers' College for the first time in school history. During three of Bob's years at GBSTC he ran track and during his senior year he played on the school's first baseball team. As a senior he served as the business manager for the yearbook.

Bob started his teaching career in 1961 at Edgerton Public School in Edgerton, MN where he taught physical education and coached football, basketball and track. Edgerton's football team was undefeated in the fall of 1963. For one year, Bob was a graduate assistant at the University of South Dakota. As a graduate assistant, Bob coached football, wrestling and baseball. In 1965, he was hired by Pipestone High School where he has been head coach in football, cross-country, basketball, and track. He also served as American Legion and VFW baseball coach for several years.

Bob's coaching accolades include District Coach of the Year in Football 1963, 1971; Basketball 1983; Girls' Track 1986, 1987, 1993; Boys' Track 1968, 1970, 1976, 1981, 1984, and 1990. In 1990 the Boys' Basketball Association recognized Bob for his contributions to MN District 8 Athletics. At the section/region level he was selected Track Coach of the Year in 1990 and 1995. He has been head track coach for 36 years, and in that time has had 100 participants in MN State Track Meet of which six of those were individual state champions. One of those individuals set a MN State Track Meet Record which still stands. Bob also coached one championship relay team.

Bob has been the Athletic Director at Pipestone for 27 years. In the spring of 1998, Bob was named Minnesota Class "A" State Athletic Director of the Year. He has been active in the Minnesota State High School Athletic Directors' Association where he has held the offices of 2nd Vice President, 1st Vice President, President and Past President. In 1992-1993, Bob coordinated the State Athletic Directors' Conference. He has been a presenter and facilitator at the New Athletic Directors' Workshop. He was Region 2A Representative for six years and Region 3A Representative for three years. Bob also spent two years as Chair of the Athletic Directors' Advisory Committee to the Minnesota State High School League.
