Women's Basketball
The
women’s basketball team at Dakota State University has been one of the
most successful sports programs in DSU history. They are also known as the
Lady T’s. During the years 1902 through 1978, they played in the
Women’s Athlete Association (W.A.A) in which they didn’t have any
conference games or opponents.
It wasn't until 1978 when the
Lady T’s started playing against other schools. They started off the
season pretty well with a record of 13-7 in 1979. (26)
After the Lady T’s wrapped up their season in 1979, they started their
journey of making it to the playoffs. From 1980-1987 they were marked as
one of the top teams in the conference. After they were co-champion
in the conference in 1987, they continued to have a good record from
1988-2001.
During
the 1999-2000 seasons, the basketball team shared the final South
Dakota-Iowa conference title with South Dakota Tech. This was
the first SDIC tournament championship for Lady T’s since 1995. (27)
This was the Lady’s T first ever automatic bid to the NAIA Division II
Nation Tournament in Sioux City, IA. The lady T’s finished with a record
of 25-8, winning eleven of their last thirteen games. 2001 was the
last time the Lady T’s took the conference championship, ending their
winning journey. This was a great accomplishment for the Lady T’s
to hold such prestige for so many years. (20)
To this day, The Lady T’s
continue to work hard and set goals towards a future championship title.
