Baseball

1965 BaseballThroughout its history, the baseball team has had it's share of ups and downs. The team has moved from being an average team to a non -existence team to very successful team.

It was established that the first baseball team was in 1905; however, a DSU baseball team was not officially organized until 1961.  In Fact, the first season that they played,  they came out with three wins and four losses. Each player was required to furnish his own equipment and uniform. During the beginning of the team's existence Dale Waba was the volunteer head coach.1

In 1982 and 1983 Dakota State College had a turn-around and finished second in the SDIC conference with the help of head coach  Tom Shea. The team kept achieving their goal by being the defending SDIC conference champions in 1984 and 1985.2  During this time of prevalence they were known as the "Team to Beat" in the coaches pre-season predictions.3  Even after this victorious streak, the team was dropped in 1985. After being a club for several years, the sport was reinstated in 1995.4  They ended that season with four wins and twenty-seven losses.5

2004 BaseballThe next couple of years, the only differences the team dealt with were changing coaches. On August 15, 2001, Patrick Dolan brought his twelve years' coaching experience to Dakota State's baseball program.6  Coach Dolan turned the program around by posting the best record in DSU's history with 33 wins and 22 losses and winning its first NAIA regional in 2002. In 2003 the Trojans set over 20 team and individual records, and Dolan believes that the best is yet to come.

Currently, Dakota State is ranked #1 Region III and #22 Nationally in the 2004 pre-season polls.7
