Great Plains Diversity Forum provides an avenue for individuals and groups to be able to focus on a particle topic related to diversity and multiculturalism. Greater strides must be taken to bring into the consciousness of people a greater understanding of what diversity and multiculturalism means. The people of the United Stated live under the misconception that there are no problems surrounding issues of diversity and multiculturalism.
Diversity Services is taking a stand, or better yet, taking a step in heightening the awareness, conscience awareness of current problems and issues faced by a significant number of Americans today.
Diversity includes, but is not limited to, ethnicity, race, gender, age, class, sexual orientation, religion, disability, political viewpoints, veteran status, and gender identity/expression. Depending on the particle needs of a group, problems may vary with in a group based on geographic location and socioeconomic status.
A healthy climate must be created where people value individual and group differences, respect the perspectives of others, and communicate openly. Through The Great Plains Diversity Essays our goal is to provide an environment for thoughtful discussion, disagreement, and respectful sharing of views and opinions, where all may learn through the written word.
