Elluminate General User Guide


What do I need?

In order to use Elluminate, you will need to have the minimum technology requirements specified below:

  • A minimum of a 56Kbps modem. Broadband Internet connection (cable modem or DSL) is recommended.

  • At least 20 MB of free space on your computer

  • A soundcard, speakers and microphone

    If you are using a laptop or TabletPC, or if your monitor/computer has a built-in microphone, the use of the built-in microphone is not recommended. Instead, use an external microphone to ensure the audio clarity and quality.

  • Windows 2000/XP/Vista
  • Pentium III 500 MHz processor
  • 256 MB RAM
  • Mac OS 10.2.8 or higher
  • G3, G4, G5 or Intel processor
  • 256 MB

The instructor/moderator of your session may require a web video camera so that you can participate using streaming video. If this is the case, Elluminate supports the cameras listed at this site:

The best place to start if you have question on how to use Elluminate is to visit their support site:

If this is your first time running Elluminate, or if you have any questions on how to use specific features, start by visiting one of Elluminate’s orientation sessions:

If you are having any of the following technical problems with Elluminate:

  • The session will not start.

  • You are experiencing audio or video problems.

  • You are receiving error messages.

If you are having difficulties accessing Elluminate between the hours of 1:00 AM and 5:00 AM (Central) on Thursday or Sunday, this may be because Elluminate is performing maintenance. Please try and access Elluminate after these hours, and if your problems persist, proceed with the steps below.

Please follow these steps:

  • If you receive the following message, you will need to install Java:

To do so, click on the “Download and install the required software,” and follow the instructions provided. If you continue to have issues, please proceed to the next step.

  • If you are not currently on the Elluminate support site, please return to it: http://www.elluminate.com/support
     
  • Under the second step on the support website, click on the “Configuration Room” link as shown below:

Follow the instructions provided in the Configuration Room, and if you continue to have problems, proceed to step 3.

3 Elluminate’s support site has an extensive self-help knowledge base with answers to the most common issues encountered when using Elluminate:

Browse through the most common issues and error messages, or use the search function to find assistance with your issue.

4 If none of the steps above have resolved the issue, during normal business hours (8-5 M-F), please contact The DSU Help Desk: (605) 256-5675

  • If you are experiencing issues outside of normal business hours (8-5 M-F), please contact Elluminate’s support at (866) 388-8674 and select option #2.
     
    When contacting Elluminate’s support, you must identify your home/host institution (e.g. Black Hills State, Northern, etc.).

     

  • If you are a student at one of the SDBOR universities, and do not know your home institution—e.g. you attend the University Center in Sioux Falls—please use the following steps to obtain this information:
     
    1. Log into WebAdvisor.
    2. If prompted, click on the “WebAdvisor for Students” link.
    3. When the WebAdvisor “For Students” screen appears, click on the “My profile” link under “Academic Profile.”
    4. Find the “E-mail Address” section. The address marked as “Primary”—usually the first listed—indicates your home institution. The table below shows the email addresses for each institution:
