CATALOG DESCRIPTION
A study of the network environment, demonstrating and dealing with the security issues inherent to network computing. Students learn how to detect threats and vulnerabilities in a networked environment, including the use of sniffers, port- scanners, intrusion detection systems, and firewalls.

PREREQUISITES: Previous courses/Experience: INFS 754, CSC 509.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to,

  1. Achieve mastery over security aspects of networked systems.
  2. Be able to prepare professional articles and papers using LaTeX document preparation system.
  3. Grasp a broad and extensive grasp of the research trends in network security.
  4. Be able to produce professional research articles in network security that can be submitted to peer-reviewed conferences and workshops.

Note: Numbers with fractions will be rounded to the next whole number. E.g. 89.2 will be rounded to 90 and hence it is an 'A'.

    COURSE OUTLINE:

    Unit Topics
    1 Introduction, preparing documents with LaTeX.
    2 Review - Network Security (INFS 754), Current trends in network security, Literature reviews and surveys.
    3 Advanced problems and pursuit of research ideas.
    4 Working on identified problems; Studies, Proofs and Implementations.
    5 Documentation, Preparing the final manuscript, submitting to ACM CCS.
