Examination of how children evidencing a learning disability or mild mental retardation can have their academic, social/emotional needs met in inclusive settings and/or the more traditional special education setting. This course includes a practicum experience to be done while completing the Level III experiences and will entail demonstrating skills acquired in the college classroom.

2.      Justification for changes indicated in Section 2.

 

Based upon faculty, cooperating teacher and student feedback, the current embedded Level 3 Field

Experience in SPED 442 provided pre-service teachers limited opportunities to work with K-8 students

evidencing learning disabilities. 

 

Therefore, this proposed curriculum change removed one credit from SPED 422 and SPED 443 Serving Students

with Learning Disabilities Practicum (new course) is being added to the program which will allow the pre-service

teacher to work directly with the student evidencing learning disabilities in a K-8 classroom setting during the

entire semester in which they are completing the Adv. Professional Block (Level 3).
