Computer & Network Security (BS)

The program focuses on Computing and Information Sciences topics including Internet-based electronic commerce, the design of web sites, development and use of databases, computer programming, computer networking, accounting finance, management, and marketing.

Webmaster: Develops and maintains the company’s Internet portal. Performs backups and ensure user accessibility to the site. Monitors site traffic and helps scale site capacity to meet traffic demands performance. Improves the company’s efficiency and designs the look and feel for the site. Must have a working knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, and SQL.

Web Developer: Designs and constructs web pages/sites including incorporating graphic user interface (GUI) features and other techniques. Maintains and provides ongoing design of the website, promos and ad banners, seasonal content specials for partners.

Web Software Developer: Designs, develops, and implements software packages for web sites. Trouble shoots, debugs and implements software code. Has knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field (i.e., SQL, C++, HTML, CGI, and JavaScript).

Website Interface Designer: Establishes, plans, directs and implements the user interface design. Designs and implements common user interface standards, system usability guidelines, design guidelines, GUI prototypes, HTML page design and management, and development methodologies.

Database Analyst: Designs, implements and supports data warehousing. Implements business rules via stored procedures, middleware, or other technologies. Defines user interfaces and functional specifications.

Database Manager: Develops and implements information management strategies. Coordinates and manages information management solutions. Scopes, plans, and prioritizes multiple projects, and manages all aspects of the database warehouses such as data sourcing, migration, quality, design, and implementation.

Networking Analyst: Installs, configures and maintains organization’s network. Builds networks and maintains external and internal web presence, administers the networks. Performs system backups on its internal and external web network servers. Designs and supports server system(s) and supporting software and maintains firewall technologies that secure an organization’s website.

Bachelor of Science in Computer and Network Security

Graduates with a Bachelor of Science in Computer and Network Security have a strong background in computing, networking, and business. They are well prepared to enter one of the fastest growing business areas in the twenty-first century and typically assume jobs such as Computer Security Analyst, Web Security Manager, Webmaster, Database Manager, and Networking Analyst.

Each graduate will have an understanding of Internet-based electronic commerce, computer security, database design, computer programming - including current client-side and server-side technologies, value-added networks, intranets, communications protocols, and privacy.

The degree is also offered on a part-time basis in Sioux Falls.

All students earning a Bachelor of Science in Computer and Network Security degree must complete the following courses:
