Business Education (BSE)
This program is designed to prepare students for the teaching profession in the area of 7-12 business education. Students are educated in the use of computers in the school and business as well as the fundamentals of accounting, economics, and business management. All DSU teacher education graduates complete a K-12 Educational Technology Endorsement Program.
Graduates Will:
- understand business topics of accounting systems, finance, economics, management, and marketing integrated with computer skills.
- learn teaching skills for diverse learners and the attributes of effective teachers.
- learn planning, instruction, evaluation, and classroom management during field experiences.
- understand how to integrate technology to support teaching and learning in K-12 classrooms.
- understand the aspects of human relations and the psychological and social changes that occur throughout growth.
- learn the developmental characteristics of elementary, middle, and secondary level learners.
- understand computer programming concepts including Visual BASIC.
- understand the legal and ethical operations of a business entity.
Jobs & Degrees
Teacher High School: Prepares lesson plans and instructs adolescents. Evaluates
and monitors student's performance. Familiar with standard concepts, practices,
and procedures within Grades 7 – 12 business and Grades 7 – 12 computer
field. Performs a variety of tasks.
Teacher Middle or Elementary School: Prepares lesson plans and instructs
children. Evaluates and monitors student's performance. Familiar with standard concepts,
practices, and procedures within Grades K-12 computer education field or Grades
7 – 9 business education field. Performs a variety of tasks. A certain degree
of creativity and latitude is required.
Teacher Adult Education: Prepares lesson plans and instructs adults in academic
and nonacademic courses. Evaluates and monitors student's performance. Familiar
with standard concepts, practices, and procedures for teaching adults in business
or computer education. Performs a variety of tasks.
Training Specialist: Conducts company training programs. Has knowledge of
commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in the business and computer field.
Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of
the job.

All Professional Education Courses must be completed with a "C" or better.

Student Teaching Semester
Admission to Student Teaching is required for enrollment in SEED 488. See Approval for Student Teaching in College of Education section. SEED 401 and SEED 471 are taught in a compressed format during the first four weeks of the semester and are usually taken in the same semester as student teaching.
